i feel like whenever a person with more privilege uses some excuse like “oh a black kid was mean to me once” or “a woman friendzoned me”
and they say that they are equal or don’t deserve the same rights,
is that they’re going off of three or four people that were “mean,” that if they were an asshole then they don’t deserve to have rights.

i obviously don’t think there’s anything wrong with interracial relationships for fuck’s sake, considering i’m in one and would also not exist without them…but people seem to think that interracial couples and mixed children solve everything or are even a relevant metric of “how far” we’ve come.
it’s so fucking annoying and i see this shit from pseudo-intellectual people on tumblr all the time. they ignore the power dynamics in the way in which interracial couples are presented (white savior, watering down and “bettering” people of color). they ignore that interracial couples are usually only thought of and represented as person of color + white person. they ignore that mixed children who are represented and glorified are usually lighter and with features typically thought of as white and glorified by eurocentric beauty standards (including light eyes, lighter and straighter hair, and lighter skin). they ignore that mixed usually is represented only as half white/half not white (usually Black or East Asian).
they ignore historical fucking cases where interracial unions and mixed kids solved nothing in terms of race relations. mixed children are not new. see: plantation slavery in the US. the fact that the majority of Black Americans have white ancestry because of slavery. the fact that white plantation owners would rape black women and have kids by them and then not have a damn thing to do with them. or Brazil where race mixing was encouraged to “better the race”.
plus in case you haven’t learned, you can fuck or want to fuck someone without it being a revolutionary or subversive act. quite often it’s the opposite, with white people fetishizing people of color and still ignoring their humanity. plenty of these people know that misogynists fuck women and it doesn’t make them love women so why do white people fucking or dating people of color make society less racist and oppressive?
